Drivers along U.S. Route 160 near Tuba City can expect months of lane restrictions and delays as a pavement preservation project gets underway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Solar shade parking canopies are being installed at the Tuba City shopping center, where they will generate electricity for Bashas’ Diné Market while covering 96 parking spaces.

The towering green industrial shelves inside the Gallup Community Pantry warehouse stretch nearly to the ceiling, built to hold pallets of food for thousands of families in McKinley County and parts of the Navajo Nation.

Utility crews from Arizona, New Mexico and New York recently connected six Diné homes to the electric grid and prepared 17 more homes for service under the Light Up Navajo and Naasgo’ initiatives.
